Footcare Essentials for Older Adults
This presentation (53:34 minutes) given by Dr. Kim Felder from the Veterans Affairs Puget Sound Healthcare System is part of the NW GWEC's Geriatric Health Care Lecture Series for Winter 2020. Dr. Fleder discusses and identifies common conditions of the feet in older adults. She also describes presenting symptoms, potential causes, diagnostic methods and treatment plans related to foot problems. Dr. Cochrane describes the various contexts of older women’s lives that influence their health. She also identifies biological and age-related changes that impact healthy aging in women. Finally, she discusses considerations for clinical encounters with older women, including recommendations for making lifestyle changes and promoting health.
SBIRT+
This course from the Iowa Geriatric Education Center covers Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT). The primary goal of SBIRT is to identify and effectively intervene with those who are at moderate or high risk for psychosocial or health care problems related to their substance use. SBIRT Plus (+) addresses the special needs and characteristics of older adults. In addition, it helps improve the understanding of alcohol and drug use later in life.

Dementia and Challenging Behaviors
The Dementia and Challenging Behavior training program from the Iowa Geriatric Education Center (IGEC) was designed specifically for use by long-term care facilities to train their staff on how to better address the needs of persons with dementia. This intensive 8-hour program is presented in 8 units to allow learners to divide the training into smaller pieces that they can do in a limited amount of time. It has 2 audio presentations with slides and 6 interactive lessons with real-life stories. Each unit also includes printable handouts.
