NIH Inclusion Across the Lifespan

The NIH Inclusion Across the Lifespan policy requires individuals of all ages (including children and older adults) be included in clinical research studies unless there are scientific or ethical reasons to exclude them. This report summarizes the presentations and discussions from the Inclusion Across the Lifespan Workshop (IAL-II) including the topics of inclusion and exclusion criteria; study designs and metrics; recruitment, enrollment, and retention; and data analysis and study interpretation.

Hot Flashes, Insomnia, and Dryness, oh my!!!

This presentation (47:32 minutes) given by Dr. Joy Bulger Beck from the University of Arizona Medical School, discusses how internists can guide their patients through menopause. By the end of this lecture, learners should be able to: 1) understand menopause management considerations for the Internist based on current evidence since the Women's Health Initiative (including Menopausal Hormonal Therapy (MHT)); and 2) address/review management of menopause-related symptoms including hot flashes, sleep disturbances, and genitourinary syndrome. Alzheimer's Scientific Images and Videos

This web page from the National Institute on Aging includes information, clinical trial participant videos, and images regarding Alzheimer's disease. The 4-minute video, How Alzheimer's Changes the Brain, shows how Alzheimer's affects the human brain and looks at promising ideas to treat and prevent the disease. In the clinical trial participants videos, four participants in NIA-supported Alzheimer's research across the United States tell their stories about participating in trials. Finally, scientific images are included that show various aspects of the brain and Alzheimer's disease.
