The Minnesota Northstar Geriatrics Workforce Enhancement Program (GWEP) is a five-year, $3.74 million project funded by the Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA), the primary federal agency for improving health care for people who are geographically isolated and economically or medically vulnerable.A goal of the Minnesota Northstar GWEP is to facilitate and strengthen meaningful support and collaboration of key partners in the geriatrics field. HRSA’s health workforce training programs help those in need of high-quality primary health care by supporting the training of health professionals.
At the project’s conclusion, Minnesota Northstar GWEP will have trained thousands of learners in IP geriatrics team care, transformed 9 primary care training clinics and 56 community primary care clinics into age-friendly sites, and promoted dementia friendly systems and communities to thousands of older adults, families, caregivers, health professions learners, and clinicians.
