Sexuality, intimacy and dementia

Nursing home and assisted living center healthcare providers and nursing staff are challenged to address issues of intimacy, sexuality, and dementia regularly within those settings. This module discusses common misconceptions and approaches to appropriately met the needs of patients with dementia/Alzheimer's disease.

Advance care planning

This module discusses advance care planning that will assist the medical team in respecting the individual's wishes as he or she approaches the end of life. Upon completion of this module, participants should be able to: (1) identify the advanced directive document and how to complete them; (2) discuss challenges with completion of advance directives in those with different stages of cognitive impairments or who may be incapable of decision making; (3) review billing and coding for Advance Care Planning. Continuing education credits are available upon completion.

SPIKES: A 6-Step Protocol for Delivering Bad News

Delivering bad news to patients in inherently negative and can contribute to stress and anxiety for clinicians. This module presents a six-step protocol for health care providers to use when delivering bad news. Upon completion of this module, participants should be able to: (1) define "bad news" and how it relates to clinical outcomes; (2) identify barriers and strategies to disclosing “bad news”; and (3) apply the six-step protocol of disclosing information that adversely affects a patients' perception of their future and quality of life.

IPE Faculty/Preceptor Development Program- a microcredential

The purpose of IPE is to prepare health profession students for interprofessional practice by teaching collaborative practice competencies within the context of interprofessional teams. All health professions now require the integration of interprofessional education into their curricula. Faculty and Preceptors must be prepared to integrate the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for effective collaborative practice into the curricula of both the preclinical and clinical years of training.

This toolkit contains interprofessional resources for teaching undergraduate and graduate students how to conduct a geriatric assessment. The toolkit contains two components: a digital interactive learner module that introduces the topic to students and a compendium of teaching resources. Faculty can select the aresources that work best for their class. Many of the resources are also available in the learner module. Most of the teaching and learning activities can be adapted for use in online and face-to-face classes.
