Preventing Dementia Behaviors Part I
This presentation (1:01:34 minutes) by Aida Wen discusses non-medication strategies for preventing dementia behaviors. Managing a Dementia Behavior Crisis
This presentation (59:49 minutes) by Aida Wen discusses how to manage a dementia behavior crisis. By the end of the presentation, learners should be able to: (1) know how to recognize delirium; (2) know how to recognize psychosis; (3) be able to describe behaviors accurately; (4) consider possible underlying causes; (5) assess for other triggers; (6) learn basic tools of crisis intervention; and (7) try helpful communication approaches. A Crisis Guide for Caregivers of Seniors with Alzheimer's or Other Dementia
Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia have physical and psychological effects that can make it difficult for seniors to maintain their independence. It’s important to understand the changes that can occur with one of these diseases. Having dementia puts older adults at risk of several types of crises, including wandering, increased aggression, hallucinations and depression. This guide covers the most common crisis situations and offers tips for preventing them.
