Surgical Considerations in the Elderly
This presentation (1:05:07 minutes) by Arun Raman discusses surgical considerations with the elderly. Key learning points: 1) major factors in the development of postoperative complications; 2) role of cardiac function in postoperative mortality; 3) findings in abdominal disease; 4) physiologic age vs. chronologic age in postop morbidity and mortality; 5) use of laparoscopic approaches; and 6) tools to assess perioperative risks.

Remembering Malcolm Cox, MD
Recently, we learned that our colleague and friend, Malcolm Cox, MD, passed away on November 25, 2022. His seminal work championing interprofessional practice and education transformation and workplace learning at the Veteran’s Administration is well known within the IPE community. Dr. Cox was a highly respected medical educator at both the University of Pennsylvania and Harvard Medical School. He served many national leadership roles that helped advance IPE during and after his tenure at the VA.
Community health worker interventions for older adults with complex health needs: A systematic review
Background/Objectives
The number of older adults with complex health needs is growing, and this population experiences disproportionate morbidity and mortality. Interventions led by community health workers (CHWs) can improve clinical outcomes in the general adult population with multimorbidity, but few studies have investigated CHW-delivered interventions in older adults.
