A Crisis Guide for Caregivers of Seniors with Alzheimer's or Other Dementia
Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia have physical and psychological effects that can make it difficult for seniors to maintain their independence. It’s important to understand the changes that can occur with one of these diseases. Having dementia puts older adults at risk of several types of crises, including wandering, increased aggression, hallucinations and depression. This guide covers the most common crisis situations and offers tips for preventing them.

Nexus Distinguished Scholars are individuals who have served in senior-level roles within academic and/or health settings and have a demonstrated track record of commitment to advancing interprofessional practice and education as well as a willingness to ask tough and thought-provoking questions.

Detection and Evaluation of Cognitive Impairment

In this presentation (1:19:18 minutes), Rachel Brenner discusses delirium and the 5Ms. By the end of the presentation, learners should be able to: (1) understand context and current definition of delirium; (2) review age-friendly health system 4Ms and the 5th M, multimorbidity; (3) discuss how each "M" relates to core principles in preventing and managing delirium; (4) understand delirium in a new context/light; and (5) discuss goals for future care.
