Care Options for Older Adults with Dementia
This presentation (1:02:00 minutes) given by Cherie Brunker and Nancy Madsen discusses care options available for older adults with dementia and their caregivers as well as the resources that are available to them. By the end of the presentation, learners should be able to describe the different care options for persons with dementia such as personal residence community, assisted living, skilled nursing facilities, and hospice. This presentation (1:03:30 minutes) given by Alberto Enrique Varela discusses oral health conditions in older adults and how to recognize them. He reviews some specific conditions that are seen in older adults and gives the oral health perspective of the conditions to give some ideas how to collaborate with others on these cases to improve clinical outcomes. The conditions that are discussed in this presentation are xerostomia, radiation caries, osteoradionecrosis, medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw, and periodontal disease.
