Drawing on experience and international research this guide, published by the Higher Education Research and Development Society of Australasia, provides theoretical and practical models to design, embed and evaluate interprofessional education. The guide includes practical advice on leadership of interprofessional education, planning interprofessional curricula, designing, assessing and evaluating interprofessional learning experiences, professional development for staff facilitating interprofessional education and case studies from Australia, New Zealand and other parts of the globe.

Family Caregiving for Diverse Elders Resource Hub

The Diverse Elders Coalition has created a resource hub containing a new training curriculum for healthcare and social services providers. This curriculum will identify and address caregiving challenges faced by communities of color, LGBT communities, and American Indian/Alaska Native communities and offer tips and tools for providers looking to better serve diverse family caregivers and older adults. Free online trainings are available for organizations and community members to learn best practices in caregiving.

Faculty from the Division of Geriatrics at the University of California San Diego Medical School and the Veterans Affairs San Diego Healthcare System developed a Geriatrics Escape Room to improve resident exposure to geriatric medicine, introduce the 4Ms Framework of the Age-Friendly Health Systems initiative, and increase resident interest in the specialty. This article describes the implementation of this teaching strategy and its evaluation in internal medicine residents. Supplemental materials provide puzzle instructions with materials used, surveys, and 4Ms care forms.

The Alzheimer's Association, as part of a cooperative agreement with CDC's Healthy Aging Program, and in partnership with Emory University's Rollins School of Public Health, developed these curricular materials on cognitive health, cognitive impairment, and Alzheimer's disease for use by undergraduate faculty in schools and programs of public health.

This "Stress First Aid for Long-Term Care" is a self-care and peer support model adapted specifically for long-term care health care personnel.. Stress First Aid offers a flexible framework of tools for addressing stress reactions that can hopefully reduce the likelihood that these reactions will develop into more severe or long-term problems. The model was developed in partnership by the University of Rochester Finger Lakes Geriatric Education Center, Ithaca College Gerontology Institute, and the National Center for PTSD.

This course from the Iowa Geriatric Education Center covers Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT). The primary goal of SBIRT is to identify and effectively intervene with those who are at moderate or high risk for psychosocial or health care problems related to their substance use. SBIRT Plus (+) addresses the special needs and characteristics of older adults. In addition, it helps improve the understanding of alcohol and drug use later in life.

This includes brief lectures, written content, quick reference guides for clinicians and providers, and information for families or patients on the risks and benefits of antipsychotics for people with dementia.

The training addresses recognizing unmet activity needs among persons with dementia, applying appropriate activity assessment methods, adjusting care routines to incldude enjoyable activities, and monitoring outcomes related to activity involvement. You can take this training program as an individual, or your facility can offer it in a group setting.

The Dementia and Challenging Behavior training program from the Iowa Geriatric Education Center (IGEC) was designed specifically for use by long-term care facilities to train their staff on how to better address the needs of persons with dementia. This intensive 8-hour program is presented in 8 units to allow learners to divide the training into smaller pieces that they can do in a limited amount of time. It has 2 audio presentations with slides and 6 interactive lessons with real-life stories. Each unit also includes printable handouts.
