National Center Launches New Website

September marked the launch of our new site, redesigned to reflect our new visual identify and brand direction. Featuring enhanced search, more engagement opportunities and easier navigation, the website is one of the most visible ways the National Center is preparing for the next phase of its operations.

With a charge to advance the way stakeholders in health work and learn together, National Center staff has spent the past three years working across many professional boundaries, cultures and experiences. The core of this work has been integrating health professions education and practice into a transformative Nexus.

The Nexus bridges the gap between how future and current health professionals learn and garner the real-world skill-development necessary for effective and efficient team-based care that improves patient and health outcomes while also reducing costs.

“Initial research results show the promise of the Nexus in achieving the imperative of the Triple Aim,” said Mark O’Leary, chief operating officer. “As we prepare to share findings and further ignite the field of interprofessional practice and education, it was important that our website and approach to communications was accessible, functional and effective.”

Streamlined design, enhanced search and more engagement opportunities

Following more than 30 hours of interviews with stakeholders representing education, practice and the funding community, National Center staff began work on the website with a single goal:  enhance the user experience.

Content is now grouped by the National Center’s framework for communication: Informing, Connecting, Engaging and Advancing and incorporates different navigation options – including filtered search, global site search and drop down menus – to provide variety and flexibility in how individuals use the website.

Many of the most popular sections, including the Resource Center, Nexus Learning System, Professional Directory and Measurement Instruments Collection, have section-contained search functionality that limits results to information found in that area only – eliminating redundant or irrelevant results.

“We have a lot of great content available, but if it’s hard to find it doesn’t help move IPE forward,” said O’Leary. “With these enhanced search features, it’s easier to find what you’re looking for, whether it’s a resource, person or educational opportunity.”

With a mix of carry-over and new functionally, nexusipe.org is well-positioned to be a single stop for resources, conversations and information about interprofessional practice and education (IPE).

Among the new features:

  • Groups:  Individuals can start or join a conversation in groups focused on various aspects of IPE. With topics ranging from how to build an IPE program to effective measurement and evaluation, these online groups provide an outlet for brainstorming, discussing best practices and connecting with others that share similar interests.
  • User Collections:  Building a collection of IPE resources is similar to creating a playlist of your favorite songs. Individuals can add articles and tools from the Resource Center into a collection for quick reference. Collections can be built around author or topic and allow other users to learn from what you find helpful.
  • Spotlight on the Nexus Innovation Network:  Each of the research projects occurring in the growing Nexus Innovation Network is described in detail, with information on partners, participating occupations and intervention study questions.
