Competency Framework: Collaborative Practice and Patient Partnership in Health and Social Services

This is an innovative competency framework developped at Universite de Montréal (Canada), co-constructed by patients and family caregivers, educators, professionals, managers, and health and social services researchers.

In a collaborative practice and patient partnership approach, optimal provision of healthcare and social services inevitably requires the development and maintenance of competencies and a change in behaviours, both in practitionners and in patients.

Working together in clinical pathology

This is a reflection-on-practice describing how an orofacial pathology interprofessional education (IPE) initiative was designed and implemented for undergraduate students in the discipline of dentistry, oral health and medical laboratory science. Six interprofessional competencies were used to guide the construction of teaching and learning resources.

Age Well Planner

The National Council on Aging created an Age Well Planner for older adults and family members to complete regarding the health and well being of aging adults. The planner includes a personalized assessment for individuals to complete depending on their role. At the completion of the assessment, individualized resources are provided to the individual based on three categories: finance, Medicare, health and wellness.

Commissioned Paper for The Future of Nursing: Social Determinants of Health- Nursing, Health Professions and Interprofessional Education at a Crossroads

The National Center was honored to be commissioned to submit a paper on "Social Determinants of Health: Nursing, Health Professions and Interprofessional Education at a Crossroads" to the National Academy of Medicine to accompany its recent report "The Future of Nursing 2020-2030: Charting a Path to Achieve Health Equity (2021)". Findings and recommendations from the commissioned paper can be found throughout the report.

An LGBTQIA+ Symposium to Improve Care for Sexual and Gender Minority Youth

Background and Objectives: Multilevel factors drive health disparities experienced by sexual and gender minority (SGM) populations. We developed a 3-hour symposium focusing on care for SGM youth to address this. The symposium was a free, extracurricular event open to the public, with an emphasis on health professional students and providers from all disciplines and involved interprofessional didactic and interactive components.
