Although often discussed separately, interventional audiology and inter-professional healthcare ideally go hand-in-hand. This article describes how we apply interventional audiology in an inter-professional setting affecting the care of trauma patients on the day of services and in the future to improve recovery and reduce future trauma. In addition, we provide data that illustrate that the inter-professional setting affects future practices of the professionals who become aware of the positive impact improved communication has on their patients.

Harvard Business Review article on potential collaboration overload. An interesting perspective from the business world that may apply to the IPE field.

Collaboration is taking over the workplace. According to data collected by the authors over the past two decades, the time spent by managers and employees in collaborative activities has ballooned by 50% or more. There is much to applaud about these developments—but when consumption of a valuable resource spikes that dramatically, it should also give us pause.

Professional preparation in athletic training has grown from modest roots based in physical education in the 1960s to its emergence as a recognized health profession today. The profession has long embraced interprofessional practice (IPP), but many times has not been included in discussions held at the institutional, governmental, and international levels. As a result, the concept of interprofessional education (IPE), which has been an emphasis in medicine, nursing, and allied health since the 1990s, has not been a part of most athletic training programs.
