The LGBTQ older adult has lived through a lifetime of stigma and discrimination. The lived experiences of LGBTQ older adults affect their engagement with health care. Participate in this module to better understand and address the multidimensional needs of aging lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender older adults, learn to utilize a patient centered framework to provide culturally appropriate care, and meet the needs of the LGBTQ older adult patient. Acquire successful strategies for developing cultural competence to address disparities and inequalities experienced by this population.

This learning module is intended for social work students. The module includes a pre-training survey that includes a pre-test, a video presentation focused on Alzheimer's disease and related dementia, and a post-training survey. The presentation is given by Jessica Wilkinson and topics include: (1) positives of aging and working with aging population; (2) dementia; (3) death and dying; (4) advance directives; (5) mental health challenges associated with aging; (6) social challenges association with aging; (7) therapy with older adults; and (8) therapy with older adults.

Oral health is critical for overall health, especially as we age. Using the Age-Friendly framework, we will explore how What Matters, Medication, Mentation, and Mobility impact and are affected by oral health. 

This learning module focuses on bone health and osteoporosis prevention.

Team Science Strategy Modules

Solving complex health problems requires bringing together individuals with different perspectives, and different backgrounds in order to create novel research approaches.  However, working in multidisciplinary teams brings with it a unique set of challenges to collaboration.

This learning module is about creating age-friendly health systems.

This learning module's goal is to educate providers and clinical staff regarding the components, documentation, and benefits in providing Medicare Annual Wellness Visits to all eligible patients.

This learning module addresses common misconceptions, approaches to appropriately meet the needs of patients with dementia/Alzheimer's disease, and explain techniques to family members and caregivers.

This learning module addresses the characteristics of medications that are high-risk and how to mitigate those risks for older adult patients. By the end of this modules, learners should be able to: (1) review the characteristics of a 'high-risk' medication; (2) list medication groups considered high-risk for the older adult; (3) apply age-friendly framework to patient-centered prescribing and deprescribing; and (4) review the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) measure for high-risk medication in the elderly.
