This learning module addresses the characteristics of medications that are high-risk and how to mitigate those risks for older adult patients. By the end of this modules, learners should be able to: (1) review the characteristics of a 'high-risk' medication; (2) list medication groups considered high-risk for the older adult; (3) apply age-friendly framework to patient-centered prescribing and deprescribing; and (4) review the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) measure for high-risk medication in the elderly.

FlourishCare Curriculum: Didactic Modules

As part of this curriculum developed by the University of Louisville Trager Institute and the Republic Bank Foundation Optimal Aging Clinic, learners will complete five online modules designed to teach them the core concepts of geriatric care. Topics to be covered include: roles of the interprofessional team members, motivational interviewing and three case-based modules focusing on the care of an older adult with complicated comorbid chronic conditions in need of community support.

This provider-focused training, which complements the IGEC’s family caregiver-focused training, is available through the Csomay Center for Geronotological Excellence at the University of Iowa.

This online learning module for CNAs and other staff discusses influenza prevention and containment methods in the older adult population. At the conclusion of this program, learners will: state the primary means of preventing themselves from getting the flu; describe the difference between a cold and the flu; and apply strategies designed to prevent them from spreading the flu to others. The module includes YouTube videos, questions to be answered, and an evaluation survey at the end.

This interactive learning module discusses the importance of shared decision making between an older adult patient and their healthcare provider. At the end of this module, one should be able to work as an effective member or leader of a health care team that understands shared decision making in various contexts of their culture, health literacy, desired level of participation, and preferences and goals of care. This module provides definitions, various approaches, possible cases, and outcomes of shared decision making in older adults.
