Narrative Medicine Weaves Storytelling Into Health Care
Illness is collaborative. It’s not just a list of symptoms and a diagnosis, but a story. That’s the philosophy behind a new educational initiative at the Community‐University Health Care Center (CUHCC).
A Relational View of Hospital and Post-acute Staff Communication and Adherence to Evidence-based Transitional Care
This descriptive research used social network analysis to explore the influence of relationships and communication among hospital nursing (RN, LPN, CNA) and discharge planning staff on adherence to evidence-based practices (EBP) for reducing preventable hospital readmissions. Although previous studies have shown that nurses are a valued source of research information for each other, there have been few studies concerning the role that staff relationships and communication play in adherence to evidence-based practice.
How Accurately Do ICU Providers Using An Electronic Health Record Communicate Patient Data During Daily Inter-Professional Patient Care Rounds?
RATIONALE: Accurate data communication during daily patient care rounds is essential yet challenging in the data-dense intensive care unit (ICU) environment. The electronic health record (EHR) is a data management tool utilized in many ICUs yet its impact on data communication during rounds is uncertain. Our previous work showed that ICU providers preparing for rounds extract only 78% of available 24-hour lab data from the EHR and accurately communicate only 61% of this information during rounds.

Old Dominion University: IPEC Competency #2 Roles and Responsibilities
This learning activity is grounded in IPEC Competency Two: Roles and Responsibilities. The purpose of the video is to enhance the student’s knowledge of their own role as well as the roles and contributions of other professions. Therefore, the primary focus of the video is to illustrate how health professionals from various fields impact the health of public as well as individual plans of health care and the resultant health outcomes rather than to highlight the specific details of a patient care conference.
Development of the Assessment for Collaborative Environments (ACE-15): A Tool to Measure Perceptions of Interprofessional "Teamness"
As interprofessional education moves from classroom to clinical settings, assessing clinical training sites for a high level of “teamness” to ensure optimal learning environments is critical but often problematic ahead of student placement. We developed a tool (Assessment for Collaborative Environments, or ACE), suitable for a range of clinical settings and health professionals, that allows rapid assessment of a clinical practice’s teamwork qualities. We collected evidence of tool validity including content, response process, internal structure, and convergent validity.
