Dr. Cerra currently works as a Family Nurse Practitioner within the Providence Medical Group at Home program, affiliated with Portland Providence Medical Center, and located in Portland, Oregon. Collaboratively with her team, Christa oversees the care of a panel of medically-fragile, homebound patients, with particular focus on improving patient quality of life towards the end of life.
Prior to her work at Providence, Christa practiced at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center-Renaissance Family Practice. There, she worked closely with leadership to lay the foundations for a team-based model of care for homebound patients with multiple chronic medical conditions. At that time, she was also simultaneously a serving member at the University of Pittsburgh - Health Policy Institute, and Assistant Professor at the University of Pittsburgh-School of Nursing.
After graduating at the doctoral level from the University of Minnesota in 2014, Christa completed a fellowship at the National Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education. Her work at the National Center was in partnership with the Patient Centered Primary Care Collaborative. Together, they interviewed Patient Centered Medical Homes found to be exemplary practice sites for team-based care.
Christa holds a graduate certificate in palliative care through the University of Washington, and is engaged in palliative care process improvement initiatives within her practice site, as well as the Providence system at large. Christa also has additional training in palliative and end-of-life care through the End-of-Life Nursing Education Consortium, and the University of Minnesota-School of Medicine. Dr. Cerra is a member of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, the American Academy of Home Care Medicine, and the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.
