The National Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education is pleased to announce that the University of South Dakota (USD) has joined the Nexus Innovation Network, a national research partnership testing new approaches to health care delivery and health professions education.

The community moderator program is an initiative that gives users of the Resource Exchange more opportunities to interact with each other – and recognized leaders in interprofessional practice education. Each month we’ll feature a different community moderator to help users determine the best contact for specific questions and topics.

In two months, the American Interprofessional Health Collaborative (AIHC) and the Canadian Interprofessional Health Collaborative (CIHC) will host Collaborating Across Borders (CAB) V in Roanoke, Va. Whether you’ve attended the previous sessions or are joining for the first time, you’ll find that CAB is a wonderful venue for discussing interprofessional practice and education (IPE).

The latest installment of “Stories from the Nexus” explores how two teams at the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) implemented interprofessional processes and education to improve – and enhance – patient care.

A growing body of work has shown that interprofessional practice and education (IPE) can improve learners’ perceptions of interprofessional practice (IPP) and enhance collaborative knowledge and skills. In contrast, establishing a direct cause-and-effect relationship between IPE and patient, population and system outcomes has proven more difficult – not unlike other health professional educational interventions.

Today, the University of Kansas Medical Center and the National Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education released a toolkit featuring a series of online educational modules and small-group activities focused on the professional development of clinical preceptors who lead interprofessional student teams.
