This presentation given by Dr. Stephen Thielke, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, University of Washington School of Medicine, is part of the 2019 Winter NW Geriatrics Workforce Enhancement Center's Geriatric Healthcare Lecture Series. By the end of the presentation, learners should be able to: 1) identify the risks of polypharmcy; 2) explain how to stop medications systematically; and 3) interact with patients and families about stopping medications. This course introduces a system-based screening (bCAM) that is supported by evidence in the emergency department. The course includes a pre-test, a presentation, videos, and a post-test. This series of six presentations from the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine Division of Continuing Medical Education provides healthcare professionals with training to help older adults navigate complex medication decisions.
