This presentation (1:01:12 minutes) given by Isabel Rovira, Lil Blanchero, and Christine Waszynski is the second lecture in an age-friendly lecture series discussing the age-friendly public health system. Participants will learn what each M means, how to practice 4Ms in the healthcare setting, and the importance of age-friendly health systems. This lecture also focuses more in depth on the mobility aspect of the 4M framework.

The Age-Friendly Long-Term Services and Supports (LTSS) ECHO ModelTM (formerly the Learning Community Series) builds on the prior UGEC Learning Community, connecting community providers in collaborative learning with specialists through live video conferencing via Zoom.  The ECHO model includes case-based learning and mentorship to help interprofessional teams gain the expertise required to provide needed care and/or services. Sessions will begin with introductions, followed by a 15-20 minute didactic, 1 or 2 case presentation(s) and a discussion.

By the end of this presentation, learners should be able to: (1) give an overview of the age-friendly health system; (2) explain the 4M's framework; and (3) understand why optimizing mobility is integral to the establishment of the age-friendly health system.

By the end of this presentation, learners should be able to: (1) give an overview of the age-friendly health system; (2) explain the 4M's framwork; and (3) explore principles of advance care planning.

This presentation (15:57 minutes) given by Dr. S. Kaja discusses opioid use in the elderly. By the end of this presentation, learners should be able to: (1) understand the management of chronic pain; (2) appreciate the scope of the opioid epidemic; (3) discuss unique challenges faced by elderly patients; and (4) understand the changing regulatory and prescribing guidelines for opioid use.

This presentation (17:14 minutes) given by Dr. Marti Echols, Dean of the College of Biomedical Sciences at Larkin University, discusses sexuality in later life. By the end of this lecture, learners should be able to: (1) understand definitions of sexual behavior and become aware of the changing role of sexuality in aging; (2) understand essential considerations of healthcare provider in the role of sexual health of elderly patients; (3) examine models for sexual history taking in the clinical environment; and (4) provide framework for treatment of identified sexual concerns.

This presentation (7:17 minutes) given by Dr. S. Kaja discusses sleep disorders in the elderly population. By the end of this presentation, learners should be able to: (1) understand the extent and scope of sleep disorders in the elderly; (2) describe physiologic changes that occur with aging; (3) list common pathologic manifestations in the elderly; and (4) describe diagnostic and treatment modalities for sleep disorders in the elderly.
