Submitted by Minnesota North... on Sep 7, 2025 - 9:49pm CDT
NIHAN’s Geriatric Seminar Series provides free health care education and resources to the geriatric community, by presenting topics related to the 4M’s, an age-friendly health care framework—What Matters, Medication, Mobility, and Mentation. The goal of the 15-session NIHAN Geriatric Series is to foster healthy aging for old adults, in order to create a more healthy and age-friendly geriatric community in Nevada.
This seminar covers Safe Home Environment & Home Health Services. Providing a safe home environment and the role of home health services can be key to preventing serious injuries and helping an individual maintain functional independence. Studies found that people who receive home health care have a better quality of life than those who don't and can help alleviate a caregiver's burden. Having patient-centered care can support individualized needs ranging from chronic care management to maintaining social connection or engagement of the things most enjoyed in their life.
In this seminar, topics covered include:
Defining & describing the role of Occupational Therapists (OT) in a community-based practice setting
Impact of falls on participation and quality of life Identify fall hazards and cost-effective
modifications
Recognize various community resources and funding options
