Family members provide significant amounts of care to relatives with complex needs who live independently. Programs that pay family members to provide care can help support home- and community-based care for Medicaid enrollees and help states address demand for long-term services and supports. This report published by the National Academy for State Health Policy (NASHP) explores how Medicaid agencies in Connecticut, Florida, and Virginia developed innovative approaches to consumer-directed programs to support older adults and people with physical disabilities and their family caregivers.
