This webinar (57:10 minutes) discusses the public health considerations and models for cultural adaptations in caregivers of people with dementia. This webinar includes two different presentations. Nina Darby discusses the Diverse Elders Coalition and their history of caregiving initiative and some novel findings in their research. This led to their caregiving toolkit, Caring for Those Who Care (found linked in the presentation), which includes fact sheets on each diverse community. Ishan Williams discusses cultural adaptations of dementia supports and services for racial and ethnic communities. By the end of Dr.Williams's presentation, learners should be able to: (1) discuss the importance of cultural sensitivity and relevance to developing dementia supports and services for diverse populations around dementia and related disorders; (2) learn about health disparities research in dementia and the role of culture in understanding the need for early diagnosis and treatment among at risk groups; and (3) learn about the process of adapting supports and services based on culture, race, and other identity characteristics among diverse populations. Presentation slides are available for download.
