Dr. Mauldin is a health economist who has significant experience and expertise with the coordination and management of large research studies, and the design, management, and evaluation of economic studies in particular. Dr. Mauldin holds an appointment as Professor of Clinical Pharmacy and Outcome Sciences at MUSC, with an adjunct appointment in the Division of Biostatistics and Epidemiology. In addition, he holds a 5/8th VA appointment as a Research Health Scientist. He has over 20 years of experience with the design and analysis of economic evaluations involving large databases (i.e., outcomes, multi-center clinical trials). He has taught courses in health economics, economic evaluations, econometrics, clinical trials, and health finance and accounting, and is a prolific author of peer-reviewed publications dealing with economic evaluations of health care interventions.

Among his current research interest are assessments of disparities in health care, Veteran health, econometric approaches to antibiotic resistance, and economic evaluations of healthcare interventions. Prior to his recruitment to MUSC in 1996, he was an Assistant Professor of Health Policy and Management for the Emory University School of Public Health in Atlanta, and Associate Director of the Program in Health Care Epidemiology and Decision Making Research for the Emory University School of Medicine. In addition, through an IPA arrangement, Dr. Mauldin served as a health economist for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
