I’ve been working as Program Manager with Shelley Cohen Konrad at the University of New England since the inception of our IPEC in 2010. I do not have a health professions background, which has been diplomatically helpful in bringing professions together in a neutral way to learn about each other. I have worked extensively with faculty across UNE to design and implement extracurricular IPE opportunities ranging from presentations by experts to student and faculty audiences of over 800, to intensive longitudinal training experiences for up to 64 students at a time. As part of a faculty team, I have attended and/or presented at CAB (Vancouver, Roanoke, Banff) and ATBH (Pittsburgh, Oxford), and am a co-author on an article about our Interprofessional Team Immersion (IPTI), a unique extracurricular resource designed in response to student requests for small, interactive, cross-professional learning experiences.  (Cohen Konrad, S., PhD, LCSW, FNAP, Cavanaugh, J. T., PT, PhD, Rodriguez, K., MHS, Hall, K., MFA, & Pardue, K., PhD, RN, ANEF. (2016). A five-session interprofessional team immersion program for health professions students. Journal of Interprofessional Education & Practice, Volume 6, 49-54).

I am very interested in any opportunity to infuse arts and humanities into health care education, practice and patient experience. In particular my arts background has allowed us to use actors specifically trained in improvisational techniques as standardized patients for highly effective team simulations.

I am also serving as the Project Manager for a SAMHSA funded SBIRT grant to provide training and education in Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral for Treatment to students, faculty, and community partners from 11 health professions.  At UNE I formerly served as Associate Director for Add Verb Productions, promoting performances aimed at bystander intervention in the realms of domestic violence and sexual assault, and eating disorders respectively. I hold an MFA from the Maine College of Art, and was a participant at the internationally recognized Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture.
