Judith Gedney Baggs, PhD, RN, FAAN is the Elizabeth N. Gray Distinguished Professor in the Oregon Health & Science University School of Nursing. Dr. Baggs has been studying collaborative care for more than 30 years. Her work is grounded in her clinical background as an ICU nurse, where she first noticed that patient care seemed to be of a higher quality when nurses and physicians collaborated in care delivery, sharing responsibility in decision making, care planning, and care delivery. She has enlarged her concept of collaboration to include multiple care providers, patients and families. She currently serves as a member of the Interprofessional Initiative Steering Committee at Oregon Health & Science.
