Dora Anne was raised in rural Maine, did her undergraduate work at Bowdoin College and her medical training at the University of Vermont College of Medicine and the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles before returning to her hometown to practice pediatrics. While working internationally on several occasions, she discovered the profession of public health and obtained an MPH from Harvard University while practicing medicine in Maine. From 1996 - 2011 she served as the State Health Officer for Maine, serving under Governors Angus King and John Baldacci. Since 2011 she has served as the Vice President for Clinical Affairs at the University of New England (UNE), and in that capacity has worked with an interprofessional team of colleagues to implement inteprofessional clinical rotations at sites in Maine.
She is master trained in TeamSTEPPS, has attended the May 2012 and 2015 National IPEC Institutes, has presented at the January 2014 and October 2015 National IPEC Institutes, and has presented at the National Governors Association Health Policy Academy in October 2015. As the founding director of UNE's School of Community and Population Health and as a public health professional, she is also interested in incorporating public health into clinical interprofessional practice settings.
