Dr. AbuSalah is the chief informaticist at the National Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education (NCIPE) and a Research Assistant Professor and Core Faculty at the Institute for Health Informatics at the University of Minnesota (UMN). He serves as the Director of Clinical Informatics at the Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI). 

In this role at NCIPE, Dr. AbuSalah will ensure the National Center is using best practices to collect, store and report data to support its research mission and it vision of transforming health care. He is working closely with center leadership to enhance infrastructure, support National Innovations Networks sites and streamline processes.

Dr. AbuSalah has a rich industry and research background in healthcare data management and analytics with focus on large scale healthcare data integration, Informatics Infrastructure Models, Business Intelligence (BI) and value-based models for the support of patient safety, quality of care and cost reduction. 

Dr. AbuSalah holds a B.S in Computer Science and Information Systems from Philadelphia University in Jordan, M.S. in Computer Sciences from the University of Illinois (multimedia data mining), M.S in Computer Sciences from Purdue University (healthcare data integration), and a PhD in Health Informatics from University of Minnesota. Previously he held appointments with Optum Data Management – UnitedHealth Group as a senior consultant and manager of the healthcare data management and analytics solutions team, Boston Scientific as a senior R&D Data Engineer, and the University of Minnesota as an Informatics Research Associate (Post-Doc).
