Pelvic Floor Training for Urinary Incontinence: Taming a Renegade Bladder With Brains and a Brawny Pelvic Floor

The Distance Dilemma: Providing Care to Loved Ones from Another State or Location

Dementia Friendly @ Work

The Dementia Friendly @ Work training is a one hour education session for staff of business and service organizations as well as other community settings. Anyone can deliver the training, using the Trainer's Guide to prepare and deliver the content. The training focuses on understanding dementia, communication tips and taking action to create an environment that is safe, respectful, and welcoming for people living with dementia. More than 100,000 Minnesotans have dementia or a related disorder. It’s projected that the number of Alzheimer’s cases and other dementias will triple by 2050.

Challenging Behaviors in Dementia Care: Recognizing Unmet Needs

This presentation (1:03:19 minutes) by Dorothy A. Colby discusses challenging behaviors in people living with dementia and what is underneath it. Topics discussed are: (1) what are challenging behaviors?; (2) what makes these situations happen?; (3) 10 human unmet needs; (4) it's all about the amygdala; (5) visual, verbal, and touch connections; and (6) looking at our role and needs. Evaluating Memory Changes

This learning module focuses on evaluating memory changes. This course will help you to: (1) identify common memory changes that occur before families receive a dementia diagnosis; (2) understand the process of getting a dementia diagnosis from a healthcare team; and (3) identify resources for addressing a family member's ongoing care-related needs. Communication Among Patients and Practitioners: Enhancing Adherence and Safety

More than one-third of U.S. patients are health illiterate and older adult health literacy levels are lower than younger adults. Lower health literacy is related to low patient adherence, poor health quality and outcomes, reduced patient safety, and higher rates of disease and mortality. Participate in this module to learn about health literacy disparities across populations and to develop strategies to address poor health literacy.

Nutrition for the Older Adult

Over the past 50 years, the understanding of the impact of nutrition on health has become increasingly important, facilitating a growing interest in the relationships between aging and nutrition. Participate in this module to better understand the unique nutritional needs of the older adult and recognize that undernutrition and micronutrient deficiencies are common among older adults but are not a normal part of aging.

Precepting Tips & Tools to Support Medication Self-Management

This document discusses how to support medication self-management. It provides a medication self-efficacy checklist to help determine an individual's readiness to self-mange their medicaion. It follows the 4-step process for effective medication self-management, and assesses how confident they are about intended use, effectiveness, safety, convenience of use, and managing their medications on their own. There is also a list of additional resources for assisting older persons and their families to self-manage their medications.
