These cases feature examples of successful IPP collaboration across a variety of settings with a variety of health and education professionals and community members. More than 35 different professions are represented among the interprofessional teams and cases thus providing a rich resource for preprofessional student learning as well as the professional development of workforce teams.

As of 2021, roughly .05% of those aged 65 and over in the U.S. identify as transgender (Beehuspoteea & Badrakalimuthu, 2021) and that number is expected to grow (Baril, & Silverman, 2022). While there is some research addressing LGBTQ+ aging and many studies covering dementia, there are scarce resources at the intersection of dementia and LGBTQ+ aging. This case study seeks to close that gap and address some of the unique needs and circumstances of trans elders with dementia.

Several online simulations developed by faculty at the University of North Carolina Greensboro provide patient case scenarios involving health issues commonly observed in the older adult population. The learning content may be applied to primary and long-term care clinical settings, and is directed to advanced practice nursing and physician assistant students. The simulation includes patient videos with closed captioning for increased user accessibility, and interactive case questions.

These interdisciplinary case management experiences (ICMEs) from the University of Louisville Trager Institute and the Republic Bank Foundation Optimal Aging Center are intended for students from multiple disciplines to come together to consider a case related to care of older adults, develop an interprofessional care plan, share documentation, and resolve a simulated scenario case. Though the ICME sessions are intended for U of L students, the cases and related documents and videos are available for public use.

The AGS Geriatrics Virtual Patient Cases for Surgical and Related Medical Subspecialty Care of Older Adults include 10 cases focused on the geriatric aspects of surgical and related medical subspecialty care of older adults, developed to help clinicians gain a better understanding of the common challenges that can arise in this population. The cases use multimedia and realistically presented clinical tasks to pose key challenges in caring for older patients, providing feedback and education applicable across specialties in the delivery of high-quality care to older adults.

This unfolding case centers on George Palo, a 90-year-old male who has been diagnosed with early-stage dementia. The three simulation scenarios cover issues related to disease progression, such as behavioral changes, medication management, maintainence of function and independence, and falls. The student nurse will be expected to use appropriate tools to assess his cognition and depression, provide emotional support, discuss adjustments in activities, conduct a physical assessment, review medications, and use the SBAR technique to collaborate with the physical therapist.

This unfolding case centers on Ertha Williams, a 74-year-old female who has been experiencing frequent memory lapses. The three simulation scenarios cover topics such as confusion, sleep disturbances, medication management, grief and loss, and transition to a long-term care facility. The student nurse will be expected to complete a Mini-Cog assessment; review medications, applying the Beers Criteria; administer the geriatric depression scale; use the SPICES tool; and report findings using the SBAR tool.

This unfolding case centers on Judy Jones, an 85-year-old widow who was diagnosed with mild dementia three years ago. Her daughter Karen moved back home to provide support. Judy is hospitalized with an upper respiratory tract infection, and the three simulation scenarios cover problems that arise in the hospital, such as delirium, wandering the halls, agitation, medication management, and atrial fibrillation.
