VA Connecticut Healthcare System at the West Haven Campus has established a Center that will train future healthcare professionals to function effectively within teams to provide exceptional quality patient centered care. The educational objectives of the program follow the enterprise core domains.

West Haven MD trainees alternate concentrated team ambulatory experiences (immersion blocks) providing interprofessional shared collaborative care to panels of patients with non-ambulatory experiences. Their ambulatory experience is shared with adult nurse practitioner interprofessional fellows, pharmacy residents and post-doctoral health psychology fellows. The West Haven site has developed VA's first post-Master's Adult Interprofessional Fellowship for APRN's. These two models support longitudinal patient care, collaborative experiences throughout training period, and model real world MD/APRN practice structure.
