This toolkit is designed to introduce learners to the structure of Medicare, Medicaid, and Medicare Hospice insurance programs provided by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and to help learners appreciate the perspectives of patients, providers, and payers receiving CMS services. It contains introductory material appropriate for undergraduate and graduate level learners.

This toolkit contains three video presentations, as well as a student and facilitator guide, to provide a structured discussion around the Medicare presentation. Instructors can share the video links with students prior to the discussion activity and download the pdf of the student guide to share with students during the discussion activity.

James Pacala, MD, MS authored this toolkit. He is professor and head of the University of Minnesota Department of Family Medicine and Community Health. The toolkit was developed as part of the Minnesota Northstar Geriatric Workforce Enhancement Program (GWEP) which is supported by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) as part of an award.
