Promoting Positive Behavioral Health: A Nonpharmacologic Toolkit for Senior Living Communities
Submitted by Minnesota North... on Jul 14, 2020 - 7:43pm CDT
This toolkit contains resources to help staff in senior living communities promote nonpharmacologic behavioral health strategies to address behavioral and psychological symptoms of distress (BPSD) that frequently occur in long-term care residential settings, especially among residents with dementia. It is divided into sections that cover the topic of promoting positive behavioral health. The sections include: person-centered philosophy, systems integration issues, evidence-based leadership and direct care giver education programs, behavior assessment tools, clinical decision-making algorithms, evidence-based approaches to ameliorate or prevent BPSD, and crisis response approaches. Through the use of this toolkit, users will grasp a better understanding of the various behaviors that older adult patients experience along with the different care teams that learn to handle these behaviors.
