Recognizing that the unique needs of senior victims of sexual violence are not being met, the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape (PCAR) and the Pennsylvania Department of Aging partnered to administer a grant from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency to create an organized statewide approach to addressing elder sexual abuse. The overall goal of this project is to insure an appropriate response to sexual abuse that will not further traumatize the elder victim, but aid in his or her healing from the profound emotional and physical injury resulting from the sexual violence. The project also seeks to provide sexual violence advocates with a tool in the form of a technical assistance manual to most effectively serve elder clients. The goal of this technical assistance manual is to allow sexual violence advocates/counselors to become adept in dealing with elder clients as needed. Advocates can peruse this guide to learn the basics of effectively working with elder clients, or utilize it in a crisis situation.
