Interprofessional Faculty Development Cohort IX - A Microcredential
Description: The purpose of Interprofessional Practice Education (IPE) is to prepare health profession students for interprofessional practice by teaching collaborative practice competencies within the context of interprofessional teams. All health professions now require the integration of IPE into their curricula. Faculty and preceptors must be prepared to integrate the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for effective collaborative practice into the curricula of both the pre-clinical and clinical years of training.
Faculty and preceptors are encouraged to participate in earning a Microcredential in IPE. A Microcredential is a competency-based, specialized certification, a formalized way to verify, validate, and attest to skills or competency achievement through rigorous, meaningful, and high-quality training processes. Microcredentials are generally narrower in focus and offered in shorter, more flexible timespans, than traditional degrees and certifications. Completion of this Microcredential will demonstrate knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to facilitate the integration of IPE into health professions curricula.
The IPE Faculty/Preceptor Development Microcredential is available through the UNTHSC Division of Academic Innovation, in partnership with the UNTHSC Department of Interprofessional Education and Practice. The program utilizes online, asynchronous and synchronous, learning methods.
IPE Faculty/Preceptor Development Microcredential Overview:
Participants will earn a Certificate of Recognition and Microcredential with completion of the following: 12 hours of online training (to include reading required texts), 10.5 hours of synchronous training via Zoom, and a team project. Zoom sessions take place 11:30am – 1:00pm CST, Fridays in Jan thru March.
Participants will demonstrate application of online training through interprofessional team-based activities and projects during the Zoom sessions. A Microcredential is earned only when participants complete all pre-work assignments, attend each synchronous session in its entirety, and successfully complete a team project. The team project will require teams to meet regularly outside of the synchronous Zoom sessions.
*The program permits one excused absence. Participants must be able to attend orientation.
