I am currently a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Minnesota’s School of Nursing teaching in the Baccalaureate and Masters programs and advising doctoral students in their graduate projects. I earned my Doctor of Nursing Practice in Health Innovation and Leadership from the University of Minnesota and my Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of Iowa.
I began my nursing career as a Pediatric Medical-Surgical nurse and became involved in various leadership roles as charge nurse, preceptor, member of various councils and committees. I also promoted and developed education for my colleagues and students based on evidence-based practice and practical application.
Following this, I became a PeriAnesthesia nurse and was involved in process improvement leading a hospital-wide initiative focused on improving the process and experience for patients transferring between surgery units and the inpatient units. I had the opportunity to speak at regional and national conferences regarding the partnership approaches to process improvement we employed throughout this work.
I later became a Nurse Clinician, focused on nursing education for two acute-care hospitals. During this time, I led several hospital-wide initiatives to decrease pressure injury rates, as well as initiatives to promote nursing culture. When the organization integrated with another large hospital organization, I became a Professional Practice Nurse Lead, serving 12 hospitals to identify and implement evidence-based practice in the PeriAnesthesia setting.
As a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Minnesota, I am passionate about educating the next generation of nurses and nurse leaders. In addition, I hope to instill the value of partnership approaches and international health studies to my students. I am also passionate about education equity and ensuring that my teaching approaches are received by students in a meaningful way to enhance their nursing practice.
