The Society of Student-Run Free Clinics (SSRFC) is an initiative started by students through a progression of conferences focused on harnessing the passion of student-run clinics across the nation. This started with the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM) pre-conference in Portland, Oregon in 2008 and later a follow-up conference in Washington D.C. through the National Summit of Clinicians for Healthcare Justice at George Washington University in 2009. That same year, a group of students from the University of Nebraska led a meeting for student-run free clinics titled “Sharing the Vision.” In addition, STFM continued their student-run free clinic pre-conference series at their 2009 meeting in Savannah, Georgia. These meetings brought together a highly motivated group of students with a plan to create a national group that would allow for collaboration between clinics, idea-sharing, and support for one another. This vision was realized with the creation of the SSRFC and our inaugural meeting in Jacksonville, Florida in 2010.
