Dr Marilyn Luptak is an Associate Professor of Social Work and Chair of the MSW Aging Concentration at the University of Utah (UU). Her recent scholarship addresses health/mental health of older adults and family caregivers, end-of-life care, and interprofessional practice and education (IPE).

As PI/Co-PI/Co-I, Dr Luptak has established strong relationships locally and nationally, most notably with Nursing, Geriatrics, Educational Psychology and Psychiatry colleagues via the U.S. Veterans Affairs Office of Geriatrics and Extended Care and the U.S. Veterans Affairs Rural Health Resource Center. Additionally, as PI/Co-PI on community-based participatory studies addressing geriatric health/mental health, Dr Luptak established ties with providers, successfully administered the projects and produced peer-reviewed presentations/publications.

She is a longstanding IPE champion and served as core faculty for Minnesota's Geriatric Interdisciplinary Team Training (GITT) Program—one of eight nationwide funded by the JA Hartford Foundation (1997-1999). Currently, she is key faculty and project advisor to the UU Inaugural Student Interprofessional Hotspotting Learning Collaborative; Co-I, with Dr Sara Hart (PI from CoN) on a 2-year National Center for IPE "Accelerating Program” grant; and a member of the UU Interprofessional Education Advisory Committee. Nationally, with JA Hartford Foundation funding, she served as a Social Work Geriatrics Integration consultant to the National Center for IPE, August 1-October 31, 2013. She was also a consultant/mentor for the 2012-2015 Hartford Partnership Program for Aging Education (HPPAE) interprofessional collaboration with 15 VA/GRECC sites where HPPAE MSW interns received competency-based training to prepare them to work as team members and navigators of health care delivery systems—key roles in person-centered care.

Dr Luptak is a Fellow in the Gerontological Society of America and also serves on the University's Center on Aging Steering Committee, the University Neuropsychiatric Institute’s Ethics Committee, and the editorial board for the Journal of Social Work in End of Life and Palliative Care. In 2015, she was honored with the Association for Gerontology Education in Social Work (AGESW) Leadership Award—a national award that recognizes a distinguished social work scholar who has made outstanding contributions to the field of aging through research, teaching and scholarship.
