Dr. Kelli Star Fox is Stony Brook Medicine’s inaugural Director of the Center for Interprofessional Innovation (CIPI). In this role, Dr. Fox fosters new interprofessional education, research, and clinical practice opportunities and builds a centralized presence to showcase and support interprofessional activities across the university.
Dr. Fox served as Associate Clinical Professor, Director of Practicum Education, and Associate Director of the Master of Social Work program at the University of New England. A champion for interprofessional education and practice at UNE, she chaired her school’s committee for interprofessional collaborative learning. Dr. Fox has actively engaged in interprofessional collaboration as a facilitator, mentor, researcher and development of learning experiences for students through the Center for Advancement of Interprofessional Education and Practice. She has co-led interprofessional experiential opportunities for students including the Ghana International Health Immersion program, Northern Lights Pain Clinic, Bessey Commons Wellness Day, and has facilitated courses on team-based care, self-care for dental students, ethics of interprofessional collaborative practice, and other areas at UNE, Indiana University, Millersville University, Maine Medical Center, and Penn State.
Dr. Fox’s research has focused on interprofessional collaborative learning opportunities and ethics and has presented her work locally, nationally and internationally. She has been a contributing team member on four federally funded workforce development grants and served as PI for two. Dr. F holds a Doctorate in Social Work from Millersville University. Her passion for interprofessional training led to her doctoral research on preparing social work students for participating in interprofessional collaborative education and practice. Her clinical work recognizes the power of a positive and authentic relational framework to support learning, healing, and recovery.
