Gisli has been working as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Adult Psychiatry in community mental health since 2008. He was awarded his PhD in Nursing from the University of Minnesota in August 2012. His research focused on integrative mental health, namely the effects of an adapted mindfulness curriculum on various psychosocial factors of persons suffering from traumatic brain injury and substance use disorders. He currently holds a faculty position at the University of Minnesota School of Nursing as a Clinical Assistant Professor where he is involved in an HRSA funded project focusing on IPE.

During his graduate studies Gisli worked extensively with the University of Minnesota Center for Spirituality & Healing and completed a Graduate Minor in Complementary and Healing Practices from the Center. Both his research and clinical interests lie in the field of integrative mental health, where he hopes to integrate the field of psychiatry and complementary and healing practices to better meet the needs of consumers of mental health services.
