CURRENT INTERPROFESSIONAL PROGRAMS

The following programs were developed at Rochester General Hospital in Rochester, NY.

Developed and implemented an annual interprofessional simulation boot camp for Rochester General Hospital Internal Medicine residents, new nurses, experienced nurses, Pharmacy residents, St. John Fisher College Wegmans School of Pharmacy students and Wegmans School of Nursing Advance Practice students. Program was started in 2013 and continues to run every June and July.  In 2016, the program will be expanded to the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Unity Hospital.

Developed and coordinated an interprofessional clinical experience with Internal Medicine residents, St. John Fisher College, Wegmans School of Nursing’s Advanced Practice Nursing students and Wegman’s School of Pharmacy students at Rochester General Hospital. The program runs over three semesters with the same team working together to develop evidence- based plans of care for patients.  Program was developed by the following individuals: Ginny Riggall, Maureen Krenzer, Melanie Symoniak, Lori Dambaugh, and Tara Sacco.

Developed and implemented an interprofessional simulation program for Rochester General Hospital’s Department of Radiology for contrast reaction education in 2015.  In 2014, developed and implemented a simulation to prepare nurses, technicians, and transporters with skills to care for a patient suffering from a cardiac arrest while they were in the Radiology Department for tests.

Developed and implemented an interprofessional simulation program to train nurses, patient care technicians, respiratory therapists, and Internal Medicine Residents to respond a cardiac arrest for a patient on a medical unit.  During the development of the program, I trained the four unit-based Nurse Educators or Clinical Nurse Specialists to run the program in an effort to sustain the training.

Developed a mentoring program for the Internal Medicine Resident Chiefs on how to debrief after a simulation to prepare them for the role of debriefing during interprofessional simulations during the 2014 and 2015 Resident Simulation program.

Developed a Fire Safety Interprofessional Simulation with Sarah Giancursui, MS, RN, the Operating Room Nurse Educator at Rochester General Hospital.  Utilized an interprofessional simulation team consisting of a Simulation Educator, a Fire Safety Team Member, and an Operating Room Clinical Leader to run simulations for over 400 employees.  Customized the scenarios in the program to train staff in the Dental Clinical, Obstetrics Operating Room and GI Clinic at Newark Wayne Community Hospital.
