Dr. Carolyn Rutledge, PhD, FNP-BC, a certified Family Nurse Practitioner, has a Ph.D. in Health Services Research with a focus in Industrial and Organizational Psychological. She has been on Faculty at Old Dominion University since 2002 and serves as the Director of the fully CCNE accredited Advanced Practice Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Program and co-Director of the Nurse Executive DNP program. She has been on the faculty in Family Practice at Eastern Virginia Medical School since 1988 where she has served as the Director of the Center of Research, the Director of the Family Medicine Fellowship, as well as maintained a clinical practice. Dr. Rutledge has published more that 35 articles and served as an investigator on 22 successful grant applications totaling over $9 million with a primary focus on providing interprofessional education that can improve the care provided to rural and underserved populations. Dr. Rutledge serves as a Site Reviewer for the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) - the national accrediting body for Nursing Programs. Most recently, Dr. Rutledge was selected as one of the finalist for the SCHEV Award in Virginia, awarded to the top faculty from all of the Universities in the state. She was the recipient of Old Dominion University’s Doctoral Mentoring Award in 2011. Dr. Rutledge is currently the PI or Co-PI on four grants focusing on meeting the needs of rural and underserved populations using healthcare technology (EHR, Clinical Decision Support, Social Media, and Telehealth) and Interprofessional Collaboration.
