Dr. Pesut is an Emeritus Professor of Nursing and a past Director of the Katharine J Densford International Center for Nursing Leadership at the University of Minnesota School of Nursing. He is an Emeritus Katherine R. and C. Walton Lillehei Nursing Leadership Chair. Dr. Pesut served on the board of Directors of the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International for eight years and as President of the Honor Society of Nursing (2003-2005). He is a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing, and a board certified clinical nurse specialist in adult psychiatric mental health nursing. He served as a Trustee on the Board of Directors of the Plexus Institute (2005-2011). He is the recipient of many awards including an Army Commendation Award while on active duty (1975-1978) in the US Army Nurse Corps; the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International Edith Moore Copeland Founder’s Award for Creativity; The American Assembly for Men In Nursing Luther Christman Award; Distinguished Alumni Awards from Northern Illinois University School of Nursing-College of Health and Human Services; as well as a number of other distinguished alumni, teaching, mentoring and leadership awards.
Dr. Pesut holds a doctorate in Nursing from the University of Michigan and a Master of Science degree in psychiatric mental health nursing from the University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio, Texas, and his Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Northern Illinois University. He holds a certificate in management development from the Harvard Institute for Higher Education and a graduate certificate in Integral Studies from Fielding Graduate University. He completed core mediation skills training from the International Association of Dispute Resolution (IARD) and Colorado State University. Dr. Pesut is authorized to use the Transforming Leadership-Leadership Development Framework (LDF) in association with Harthill Consulting Limited, as well as the Hogan Leadership Forecast series of assessments. He is a Hudson Institute of Santa Barbara certified coach, and a member of the International Coach Federation. He is a master teacher on topics such as creative thinking, futures thinking, clinical reasoning, and self-regulation of health status, executive coaching, integral theory and interprofessional health professions education.
