Dr. Nagelkerk has worked as a Professor of Nursing, Director of Medical Surgical and Ambulatory Care Services, Assistant Vice President of Academic Affairs and now serves as the Vice Provost for Health at Grand Valley State University (GVSU).  GVSU’s annual enrollment is over 25,000 students with over 9,000 students pursuing a health-related degree.  Dr. Nagelkerk’s role includes providing leadership for and coordinating health-related initiatives for the University, developing and strengthening community partnerships, developing a strategic plan for health, administering health compliance and health contracts for the University, overseeing the Simulation and Learning Resource Center, hosting health-related university events and leading the Midwest Interprofessional Practice, Education and Research Center. 

Dr. Nagelkerk strengthens and expands initiatives with community partners and facilitates the development of new collaborations with GVSU’s nursing, health profession, and life science programs and centers.  She served as the principal investigator of the Traumatic Brain Injury Project funded by the Department of Defense, the Safety Culture Transformation Study funded by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Foundation, and as the project director at GVSU for a Kellogg grant for the development of two primary care nurse-run health centers.  She serves as the lead for Grand Valley on a U.S. Health and Human Services Nursing Education and Practice Quality Research Grant that is implementing and testing the MIPERC interprofessional collaborative practice model (IPCP) in nurse managed centers and is the Principal Investigator for a Robert Wood Johnson and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Foundation research grant that is testing the MIPERC IPCP model at Cherry Health, a large federally qualified health center.  Dr. Nagelkerk serves on many community boards and has authored numerous publications.
