Dr. Drinka developed and administered interdisciplinary clinical programs, taught interdisciplinary teamwork, and performed clinical social work and research at the University of Wisconsin and the Department of Veterans Affairs for 20 years. In 1996 she established a consulting and training business conducting human systems analysis and team development in healthcare systems throughout the United States and in Canada. Dr. Drinka was instrumental in developing clinical assessment, training, and team evaluation methodologies including the ALSAR-R, a tool to evaluate instrumental activities of daily living and the Team Signatures®, a technology to help consultants evaluate the system dynamics of teams. In 1987 Dr. Drinka was awarded the first national Leadership VA Alumni Association’s Annual Exemplary Service Award for excellence in leadership and program development. In 1997 Dr. Drinka received the Association for Gerontology in Higher Education Distinguished Teacher Certificate for contributions to interdisciplinary education and in 2000 she was awarded a lifetime achievement award by the National Institute for Interdisciplinary Studies, Louisville, Kentucky. Dr. Drinka served on the editorial board and is a reviewer for the Journal of Interprofessional Care; co-authored the books, Health Care Teamwork: Interdisciplinary Practice and Teaching (2000) which is currently being revised and the award winning Stung by “B”s: A Storybook On How To Recognize And Survive Venomous Behaviors (2011); and published articles and book chapters on self-directed work teams, mental health, interdisciplinary health care teams, and patient assessment instruments.
