Devin Nickol, MD

Co-editor in Chief, Journal of Interprofessional Education & Practice
Devin Nickol is the founding Coeditor in Chief of the Journal of Interprofessional Education & Practice. He is a practicing general internist and associate professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, where he serves as the founding Assistant Dean for Interprofessional Education. He is a charter lifetime member of the American Interprofessional Health Collaborative (AIHC), and currently participates in multiple grant-funded IPE research projects sponsored by groups including HRSA and the AMA. In addition to his role in IPE, he has served as a lecturer and course director within UNMC’s College of Medicine for over 15 years, and travels to western Nebraska each summer to teach Field Epidemiology to undergraduate science majors at the University of Nebraska’s Cedar Point Biological Station.
Amy Blue, PhD

Associate Editor for Curriculum, Journal of Interprofessional Education & Practice
Amy Blue is the Associate Vice President for Interprofessional Education, UF Health and the Associate Dean for Educational Affairs in the College of Public Health and Health Professions at the University of Florida. Dr. Blue has been engaged in health professions education for 20 years, and in 2007, became the founding director of the interprofessional education program at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) where she served as the Assistant Provost for Education. She is a founding member of the American Interprofessional Health Collaborative (AIHC) and a member of the National Academies of Practice. She has published extensively in the medical and health professions education literature and is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Interprofessional Care, and an Associate Editor for the Journal of Interprofessional Education and Practice. Dr. Blue served as a member of the Interprofessional Education Collaborative Expert Panel that wrote the Core Competencies for Interprofessional Collaborative Practice Report in 2011, and completed a study funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation examining assessment and evaluation processes in interprofessional education.
Alan Dow, MD

Associate Editor for Policy, Journal of Interprofessional Education & Practice
Alan Dow is Assistant Vice President of Health Sciences for Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Care at Virginia Commonwealth University. He directs the Center for Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Care at VCU and is responsible for developing, implementing, and studying initiatives in interprofessional education and collaborative practice across seven schools at VCU, the VCU Health System, and the surrounding community. Under his leadership, the Center’s programs engage over 1500 students, faculty, staff, and practitioners annually. He has been supported in this work with funding from the Josiah H. Macy, Jr Foundation as one of the inaugural class of Macy Faculty Scholars, a highly competitive national program focused on developing the next generation of educational leaders. He researches, writes about, and speaks on healthcare teams through a translational approach, studying the basic science of teamwork in healthcare and applying these insights to innovation in education, practice, and health policy. He is currently funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Dr. Dow serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Interprofessional Care and the Journal of Interprofessional Education and Practice as well as the board of the American Interprofessional Health Collaborative. A practicing internist, Alan attended medical school at Washington University and completed residency in internal medicine and a health administration degree at VCU.
Mayumi Willgerodt, PhD

Associate Editor for Assessment, Journal of Interprofessional Education & Practice
Mayumi Willgerodt is Professor in the School of Nursing and Health Studies and Director of Graduate Students for the University of Washington Bothell. Dr. Willgerodt’s work is focused in interprofessional education and collaborative practice; she has been involved in numerous initiatives within and beyond the University of Washington. She has participated and/or led the development of community based cases for use in IPE, the creation of a longitudinal IPE curricula, and faculty development. She is a member of several grant teams focused on IPE and patient safety and co-leads the evaluation core of a HRSA funded grant focused on integrating IPE and technology in DNP curriculum at UW. In 2011 she was chosen as one of eight faculty at UW to participate in the UW IPE Teaching Scholar program. In July 2013, she was selected by the Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation as one of five national Faculty Scholars—a two-year program designed to support faculty to lead innovative educational change. As part of this program, Dr. Willgerodt developed and implemented a systematic classroom to community IP curriculum with advanced practice nursing students and pediatric dental residents and has worked with faculty across the Schools of Dentistry and Nursing to create interprofessional learning and collaborative practice opportunities in the Center of Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Washington. She consults nationally on creating sustainable models of interprofessional education, is an associate editor for the Journal of Interprofessional Education and Practice and, as a certified school nurse, is actively involved nationally in school nursing health research.

The Journal of Interprofessional Education & Practice (http://www.jieponline.com) provides a forum for innovative ideas for interprofessional educators and practitioners through peer-reviewed articles and reports. Founded in 2015, the journal welcomes unsolicited manuscripts related to education, healthcare policy, practice, or research. In this presentation, the journal’s co-Editor-in-Chief and Associate Editors will help new and experienced authors understand the process of developing, writing, and submitting manuscripts to peer-reviewed journals with particular emphasis on ways that authors can help ensure a speedy submission and review process. Topics covered will include the benefits of publication to individuals and the field, how to structure an article, areas of emphasis, author guidelines and common pitfalls and pearls based on the presenters’ collective experiences.
