Content Description:

The American Interprofessional Health Collaborative (AIHC) transcends boundaries to transform learning, policies, practices, and scholarship toward an improved system of health and wellness for individual patients, communities, and populations. We transcend:

  • Professional boundaries;
  • Organizational boundaries;
  • Various perspectives and philosophies of interprofessional teamwork and collaboration;
  • Stages of professional development;
  • Boundaries around professionals and individuals, communities, and populations; and
  • Geographic and national boundaries.

Composing AIHC are individuals and organizations committed to influencing a more positive future.We advocate for and advance the alignment of the interprofessional educational programs; the importance of interprofessional health care delivery; and the research programs that facilitate examining these education-practice linkages towards better outcomes for health and health care.

AIHC is committed to the preparation and deployment of a workforce that exemplifies ethics and values for interprofessional collaboration; that understands the breadth and complexity of roles and responsibilities for collaborative practice; that has the foundational skills for effective interprofessional communication; and has the requisite competencies for interprofessional teamwork and provision of team-based care of individuals, communities, and populations.

AIHC provides a forum for interprofessional collaboration, shared learning and creation of new education and practice models by transcending traditional uni-professional organizations and boundaries. In 2015, AIHC launched its first general membership campaign, with the goal of expanding the network, supporting members' work, and empowering current and future educators and health professionals to achieve Triple Aim outcomes through collaborative practice and education.

During this Showcase Presentation, presenters will share:

  • Opportunities to become engaged with AIHC
  • Demonstrate tools and resources available through AIHC (i.e. webinars, sponsorship of CAB meetings)
  • New opportunities in development: regional meetings, affinity groups, mentorship, resources to promote evaluation and scholarship of interprofessional education and practice
  • Value of joining a network of colleagues beyond your own organization and discipline

AIHC seeks active input from members and potential members to define the perceived needs and opportunities for our growing organization. Participants will have the opportunity to voice priorities, identify gaps in current professional organizations, and services that would bring value to our community of interprofessional educators, scholars, and practitioners.

Learner Objectives:

  1. Participants will understand the value of AIHC membership for professional development, networking and leadership in interprofessional education and practice.

  2. Participants will be introduced to the opportunities for with an interprofessional network through AIHC.

  3. Participants will identify opportunities to promote the Triple Aim (for patients, communities and populations) through participation with AIHC.
