This presentation (56:35 minutes) by Dr. Ednita Wright, Chair and Professors of Human Services and Alcohol/Substance Abuse Counseling at Onandaga Community College provides an overview of opioid use among older adults (Wisdom Keepers); reasons for abuse; the power of the use stigmatizing language, the reason that language matters; how loneliness and shame increase the use of opioids among Wisdom Keepers; and effective ways to reduce the stigma that older adults face which keep them from the support they need and deserve.
