This presentation given by Dr. Hilaire J. Thompson, Professor of Biobehavioral Nursing and Health Informatics at the University of Washington's School of Nursing, is part of the 2018 Winter NW Geriatrics Workforce Enhancement Center's Geriatric Healthcare Lecture Series. Upon completion of this presentation, learners will be able to: 1) discuss the changing epidemiology of traumatic brain injury in the US and implications for care; 2) discuss structural neurological changes that occur with aging that increase risk for or worsen injury; 3) discuss physiological changes that occur in the nervous system with aging and implications for the injured brain; and 4) identify patient/family education resources for the prevention and/or identification of traumatic brain injury in older adults.
