This is an online learning module created by the Native American Elder Justice Initiative. The materials presented in the elder justice curriculum are designed to help those working with Native American elderly to understand the various types of elder abuse and become more knowledgeable about elder abuse issues. The materials will assist staff in responding appropriately to Indigenous victims of crimes and their families and enhance provision of culturally sensitive services.

This module includes information about the differences in legal approaches to elder abuse with indigenous populations of the United States. There is information about tribal courts, determining jurisdiction, examples of language to use with. the elderly when investigating elder abuse and neglect, information about consent and capacity, and finally restorative justice.

Those who may find this module informative include: law enforcement, attorneys, tribal judges, other court personnel, social workers, mental health counselors, and employees of victim services.

Learning objectives:
-Identifying cases of elder abuse, including who is at risk for perpetration and victimization
-Learning how to collect evidence relevant to elder abuse cases
-Understanding how to prosecute cases with the best interests of the elederly in mind
-Determining alternative ways to administer justice using a restorative justice approach
-Learning how to develop multidisciplinary teams with other professional outside of hte court who can provide additional support to victims and their families
