Hello , I am interested in finding the criteria you have used for tool selection for IPCP practice. How do I access that information . I have the tools you selected . Also , What is the best way to share a tool , we are using and what information would like us to submit with that tool ?

Quantitative experimental research as outlined above may be the gold standard for certain areas of inquiry such as biomedicine, however in education it is almost impossible to control all variables except one - and the ethical implications of such behaviour in education need to be considered. IPE is a complex intervention and therefore we need to consider methodologies more widely and redefine what is a gold standard. Realist approaches are increasingly being used.
Hi Kathryn, some colleagues and I have been developing two IPEC-inspired attitudinal instruments called SPICE and SPICE-R. SPICE was developed for use in medical and pharmacy student populations, and SPICE-R ("R" for "revised") for use in all health professional student populations. Both instruments contain 10 items distributed across 3 factors, or subscales: Interprofessional Teamwork and Team-based Practice, Roles/responsibilities for Collaborative Practice, and Patient Outcomes from Collaborative Practice. I've posted these to the Resource Exchange, as well as links to the papers. We've recently completed two validation studies evaluating new and improved versions we're calling SPICE 2 and SPICE-R 2. The SPICE 2 validation paper is currently under review, and we're waiting for this to be published before we submit the SPICE-R 2 validation paper. I am looking for a tool that will evaluate students progress in relation to the interprofessional competences. Through on going self evaluation by the students we are hoping to reflect the learning gained through the program.

Quantitative experimental research is seen as the Gold Standard in research but I haven't found any IPCP studies that use this methodology. There are plenty that use quantitative descriptive methodology. In order to understand if a study is quantitative experimental it needs to measure and have an an intervention. I have made myself some simple reflective questions that help me decide, they aren't too fancy...
How to decide if the study is a quantitative experimental/intervention.
· an effort is made to identify and impose control over all other variables except one. YES?
· An independent variable is manipulated to determine the effects on the dependent variables. YES
· Subjects are randomly assigned to experimental treatments rather than identified in naturally occurring group YES
· It uses scientific method to establish cause & effect relationship of variable YES
· It has outcome measures YES
· Establishes cause-effect relationship YES
· Is on the theme of ASD Theory of Mind YES
· Is peer reviewed journal YES
· Is the hypothesis provable by maths stats?YES
Is the comparison group set up specifically for research YES or naturally occurring then NO
Does the study have comparison between groups based on the experiment and t-test and analysis of variance as main statistical feature?
If these questions answer YES then the study provides defensible evidence that the hypothese is true.

The tools we are presently using are Relational Coordination Survey and Safety Organizing Scale .I dont know if these will fit the criteria you are looking for .

have you come upon any tools that are based on quantitative experimental or quantitative intervention methodology? The tools I have found are all quantitative descriptive methodology and this just won't work for my requirements.
